Koira is a village in the Devanhalli Taluk of the Bangalore Rural District in the Indian state of Karnataka. The village has a population of 2101, with 1023 females and 1078 males. Koira has a total literacy rate of 64.36 percent, but despite its proximity to the Bangalore district, the village still experiences some poverty. There are 900 houses, and fifty percent of the residents live in very poor conditions. Aside from laying out the Govt schools and essential medical care units no different offices are there. The village does not have an ambulance, even in the event of a medical emergency.
Because the land around Koiyra was full of quarrying, both men and women in the village had a lot of opportunities to earn money. The laborers also wanted their children to get an education and the children were studying in the local government schools. But when the new Bangalore International Airport opened, the government stopped quarrying in Koiyra village. This left nearly 600 laborers’ families without a job, but they could find other work outside the town and earn enough to take care of 2 meals for their family.
Befriend life had an opportunity to visit the village and after taking stock of the ground reality, decided to help those children studying in the school with stationery, sports materials, and warm clothes. Besides this Koiyra village become a fantastic platform for us to implement our flagship “Project SWASTHYA”.
